˚tutorial˚ No-Sew Bed Skirt from a Curtain

When we moved we sold all of our bedroom furniture except for our mattress. I was tired of the random pile of blankets we had on our bed and the clunky bedroom furniture. 

During our bed makeover, I could not seem to find a bed skirt I liked that was affordable and I didn't want to spend a small fortune just to cover up the few things I have stored under there. 

After I discovered that are enormously large window needed three curtain panels instead of just two, I had an idea!

I cut the curtain in half the long way. Then, starting at the head board, I safety pinned it to my box springs. 

As I went, I covered the safety pins with a small piece of masking tape so that the pins didn't damage the sheet or the mattress that rested on it.

My bed is a queen size, and my panel ended a little bit after one long side.

I just pinned the grommets around the corner, and started pinning the other half of the curtain panel.

I kept pinning and wrapping the bed skirt around the edge of the bed until I ran out. I didn't make it all the way around, but it didn't matter because part of my bed is really close to a wall. No one will ever know. But, I could have cut up one last panel and continued around and then make a throw pillow from the last half.

Luckily my blanket covers the somewhat awkward corners and no one will ever know that I used a curtain panel as a bed skirt. Except you. 

So the next time you are looking for a bed skirt, check in the curtain isle. With a pair of scissors, safety pins, masking tape and about 15 minutes, you might have the perfect bed skirt.

˚tutorial˚ Fall Wreath

Have you made a fall wreath yet this year? It's not too late. All the extras on this one are made of felt. Everything for this baby came from my crafting stash.

 Start with a wreath form and hot glue large chunks of raffia onto it until it's covered. 

Next, glue long chunks of raffia around 1/3 of the wreath. 

Trim the strands so they are all the same length.

 It should look like this from the front.

Now for the extras....

To make the sunflower, cut three different sizes of triangles. You will need about 7 or 8 of each size. Here are my two largest triangles.

Now place a small amount of glue in the middle of the triangle. 

Fold one of the edges over like this...

Add glue on top of that flap...

And fold the other edge in.

Do this for all of your triangles.

Cut a circle out of felt. We will glue our petals onto this. Before I started gluing, I set the triangles on top of the circle to make sure I had a good amount of petals. 

Using a glue gun, start with the largest petals and attach them around the circle.

Now add the second layer...

And the third...

To fill in the center, I used a large brown button.

And a view from the back...

Now for the red flower.

The petals here are circles. 

Fold them in half and secure with a little bit of glue. 

(Notice--they don't have to be perfect circles)

Add glue to the bottom... 

And fold the edges into the center.

Attach the petals around the edges of the circle.

For the center of this flower, I rolled a long strand of brown felt and secured the end.

Since I needed a little more color, I added a few more details.

I cut a triangle out of orange felt and rolled it up.

Secure the end with glue.

For the green petals, I cut out a rounded rectangle...

And folded it like this...

See it from the top?

Then I smashed it in on itself and glued it together.

Once I finished all the felt pieces, I arranged them and glued them on.

Last, I turned it over and trimmed the extra raffia from the inside edge.

And then I cleaned up the mess I made.

˚tutorial˚ Picnic Wedding: No-Sew Pennant Banners Part 3

Are you sick of pennant banner tutorials? This is the last one. You can find part 1 and 2 here and here.

We decided to attach the small pennants with mini (1") clothes pins, so the banners needed to be glued together first.

I used this glue and it worked great, although I am sure anything spray adhesive would work.

I found a piece of cardboard and laid a bunch of them out (wrong side up). I used the spray adhesive to put a light coat across all of them. (I held the can about 10 inches from the cardboard so it wouldn't blow the pennants away with the spray.)

And then I did this and got my fingers really sticky!

After each batch I set them out to dry on the only large, flat space I had. The stairs!

And I tested out the clothespins before I stuck them in the suitcase and headed to Utah. Had to make sure it looked good. What do you think?
