˚tutorial˚ Picnic Wedding: No-Sew Pennant Banners Part 3

Are you sick of pennant banner tutorials? This is the last one. You can find part 1 and 2 here and here.

We decided to attach the small pennants with mini (1") clothes pins, so the banners needed to be glued together first.

I used this glue and it worked great, although I am sure anything spray adhesive would work.

I found a piece of cardboard and laid a bunch of them out (wrong side up). I used the spray adhesive to put a light coat across all of them. (I held the can about 10 inches from the cardboard so it wouldn't blow the pennants away with the spray.)

And then I did this and got my fingers really sticky!

After each batch I set them out to dry on the only large, flat space I had. The stairs!

And I tested out the clothespins before I stuck them in the suitcase and headed to Utah. Had to make sure it looked good. What do you think?

˚tutorial˚ Picnic Wedding: No-Sew Pennant Banners Part 2

Did you see the no-sew pennant banners part 1 here?

I attached the banners I made in part 1 a few different ways. Today, I am going to show you what we did with the larger pennants. We made these to hang over the dance floor of my sisters gorgeous vintage picnic wedding.

First, we measured out the twine (with about 12 inches extra on the end to tie it) and tied it between 2 chairs.

Then we spaced the banners along the twine.

And right when we were finished, the wind picked  and blew half of them off. Go figure! We spaced the banners again and secured them with a clothespin. Take that wind!

While one person (me) held the two tips of the diamond,

the other person (bride-to-be) applied a light covering of spray glue on the inside.

I then matched the points at the bottom,

And slide my fingers up the triangle to adhere the glue.

As we went along, we found that many of our triangles were curling up at the bottom. We started leaving the tip of the triangle un-glued and that fixed the problem.

And here is the final post about the no-sew pennant banners.

˚tutorial˚ Picnic Wedding: No-Sew Pennant Banners Part 1

What did you think of the wedding tags here? They will pop up again when I show you the overview of the whole wedding put together, but until then, just keep reading and putting the pieces together. Its like a 500 piece puzzle. It will take a little bit of time.

P.S. Sorry about the dark pictures. Sometimes night time is my only crafting time. I am sure you know how that goes!

My sister wanted some pennant banners for some of the tables and to hang over the dance floor. Something to jazz things up. I didn't want to spend FOREVER on them because I had to make so many. I decided to go with a no-sew banner. Nice and easy, even when you have to make 300 small pendants and 120 big ones.

Here is the fabric the bride picked out (with the discoloration from the flash...sorry!)

To start, I figured out how big I wanted the pennants and made two pattern pennants out of paper. I taped them together to make a diamond.

Diamond (two triangles taped together)

Triangle (diamond folded in half)

Since I wanted the pennants double-sided, I folded my fabric in half. Using the paper patterns, I made small dots on all the points of the pattern on the fabric. Can you see one in the picture below?

Once I had all the points made, I used my ruler and rotary cutter to cut out a bunch of diamonds at once.

IMPORTANT: Can you see the two different shapes in the picture above? I used the triangle shape (the diamond pattern folded in half) when I was cutting on a fold. That way, when I open those up, each one will be a diamond. Each diamond shape above will actually give me two diamonds because the fabric is doubled over. Clear as mud?

When I had the knack down, I started cutting more than one fabric at a time.

Once I had all of my large diamonds....

and small diamonds cut, I headed to the ironing board.

I folded each pennant in half and ironed them flat.

And then I set them aside because frankly, I was tired of pennant banners.

Click here for part 2 for one way to attach the pennants and here for part 3 for the final post about pennant banners.

˚tutorial˚ Picnic Wedding: Boxed Lunch Tags

Recently I think I developed carpal tunnel. I'm over it now, but boy did I have sore forearms. Have you ever punched out 1,000 circles over the course of a few days? I have. Actually, I take that back. I made the Mr. help me near the end because I couldn't take it any longer. And the pain was totally worth it in the end.

For my sisters wedding, she wanted boxed lunches. Picnic style. As we were brainstorming ideas for a bow/tie/tag/sticker for the boxes, I came up with this idea. I recently attended my brother-in-laws wedding where they included a little fact about the bride and groom in a small gift they gave each guest. That was my favorite part about the whole lunch (although the food was fabulous).

So, I suggested we make tags for the lunch boxes and put a little fact on the back of each one.

First, we purchased a discounted stack of scrapbooking paper in the brides colors. I had to trim them down so they would fit in my printer.

Next, I figured out what size circles we wanted. I purchased two punches. One was 2" and the other was 2.5". I created an Adobe Illustrator document with the facts that the bride and groom thought up and printed them on the back of the scrap booking paper.

Next I gave myself sore arms by punching out all 500 facts with the 2.5" punch.

This is what they look like from the front.

I also designed the front of the tag in Illustrator and printed those on Kraft card stock.

And gave myself carpal tunnel by punching almost all 500 circles with the 2" punch. (Thanks to Mr. Candid for saving my arms.)

After tying them on the boxed lunches with a piece of twine, I think they added a nice touch.

And the guests had plenty to talk about when they discovered one of the 12 different facts on the back.

And...I don't really have carpal tunnel. And the guests really did love the tags.

I'm telling ya. Its the details that matter.

Child Protective Services?

Hello.
How've ya been during the past few weeks?
I admit.
If you were my children, someone could have called the child protective services a long time ago. I have been neglecting you (my dear readers) for quite some time.

BUT...

It must stop. It is going to stop.
I am finally back in the way.too.hot.for.words.Texas after quite a busy stay in Utah.
I turn in my last assignments before I graduate with an MPH this Friday.

AND...

I have a million posts up my sleeve.
Anything from how to put on a completely beautiful vintage picnic reception (many many posts on this one friends) to how to clean your car mats for CHEAP.

SO...

Want a sneak peak of the beautiful bride?

Sorry....I couldn't show the actual bride because the dress needs a post to itself.
Specially since the mother made it.
Boy was it beautiful.

SO...

Check back.
Often.
I'll be here.
Really.

I promise.

˚kitchen tip˚ Steaming and Boiling

No...I didn't fall off the face of the planet. Yes...I do have a million projects to show you. How could I not with a wedding exactly one week away. Boy have we been busy.

But for today (since wedding projects and school papers are still in full swing around here) I just have a simple kitchen tip.

The other day I was making spaghetti. I wanted steamed asparagus on the side, BUT I didn't want to boil water twice.

So...

I simply boiled the noodles...

And put the steamer on top with the asparagus in it.

By the time the noodles were finished, my asparagus was done. Talk about killing two birds with one pot of boiling water.

And there were no funny tastes either. Perfect.

˚excuses˚ Ahhhh!

Talk about a crazy week! I am trying to finish up a MAJOR arts and crafts project (like materials-all-over-my-downstairs-living-area-for-multiple-days MAJOR. The Mr. calls it a construction zone. You know the feeling right?). I am in charge of a few MAJOR projects for my sister's wedding that's coming up. We are getting new carpet tomorrow (MAJOR movement of furniture and other crap). We are leaving town on Friday. I am trying to apply for jobs and I finish school in 4 weeks (Major papers and projects going on).

AHHHHH!

So as much as I love you, all I have today is this lame excuse post. Have you used any excuses lately?
